It was 6am on an October morning. My wife Bev and I were tied to the dock in Deer Harbor. I love coming here because of the changing diversity of treasures come into contact with the boating community. The evening before I had been out capture images just as the sun was dropping beneath the bluff. I saw these delicious vintage sailboats on anchor in the harbor. I thought about making images of them, but the background was cluttered and distracting. I thought to myself that fog could solve that problem. The weather was forecasting patchy morning fog in the area, so quietly I “drooled” at the possibility. We had a nice dinner that evening aboard the “Visual Pursuit” with wine and I told her about my morning plans. As expected, the following morning a veil blessed me with possibilities. I must have spent an hour with this scene, cropping, composing, deciding, observing, feeling, shooting and enjoying. Hopefully my joy can become yours. We had a “delayed departure” that morning from Deer Harbor. Getting home was a little sketchy, but my trusty GPS and navigation skills from years of boating took us home after a week in the San Juan Islands.
