Agriculture seems to take on an abstract art form in the rich soils of the Palouse. Springtime is the time to be there if rolling green layers are your destination. I was there on June 6th to capture this image from the upper elevations of the 3,612 ft. high Steptoe Butte. I immersed my creativity in the magic of this area of the eastern side of Washington State. I am sure you will find it fascinating to take the time to research the creation of these beautiful rolling hills. In brief, glaciers advanced down from Canada during the last several ice ages, scraping over the bedrock as they passed over it. A "rock dust" called glacier flour was created and deposited into an area known as Glacial Lake Missoula. The Missoula Floods washed into eastern Washington, creating several huge lakes. They eventually drained, leaving behind unbelievable quantities of silt. The hills slowly formed over tens of thousands of years of prevailing winds from the southwest, picking up and dropping the silt and dust across the region, forming hills that took on an appearance of giant dunes.
Please note: "Premium Limited Edition Prints" are exclusive art print products that I personally print, inspect, number, sign, and title in my Bellingham Studio. A certificate of authenticity is also included. For more details click HERE.
