Washington’s Ruby Beach during a late winter storm.
My wife Bev and I made a visit to Kalaloch Lodge on the Washington Coast in January during the mid-1990s. I recall that there was very little sunlight. The two days we spent there were mostly gray and rainy. The weather evoked an eerie feeling of a desolate landscape. It was wild and beautiful there, but photography was not my primary motivation for this trip. However, that changed with a brief visit to Ruby Beach on our way home. I found all the elements that would say, "this is the coast of Washington." Gray, rocky, wild, misty, wet (most of the time), and trees attempting to withstand the harsh onshore winter storms.
