A Fall 2021 tour of the Pacific Northwest placed my wife Bev and myself in Gearhart, Oregon. We originally had planned on traveling to Florence. Staring at less than ideal weather conditions, we altered our destination. The drive through the coast range dumped an unusual amount of rain on us. At times the wipers were challenged with clearing the windshield. When we arrived in Gearhart, it was still raining, but I could see some hints of blue in the sky. I walked down to the beach with only my iPhone to check it out. I rushed back to the hotel (McMinnamin's) for my serious photography Nikon gear to get to work. I had a sense the storm was going to break for a while. My thoughts focused on a beautifully colored sunset. I quickly changed course when I witnessed the beautifully sculptured sand waves interacting with the dramatic light. Receding lines, dramatic clouds, and an altered perspective pulled at my creative spirit. Again the process (as usual) was like a game of "cat and mouse." When the rushing surf charged up the beach, I had to retreat. As it washed back, I followed, looking for opportunity. I must have captured over 100 images. As the editing process evolved, I tossed out many. Eventually, "Gearhart By The Sea" became another best of the best.
