Mark Bergsma - Artist Statement

My Father and I (Circa 1950)

“I often think that upon my placement here, that I was predestined to become an artistic photographer. Without a doubt, as each year passes, I become more convinced photography chose me.”

It has been a long and winding road to my destination. During this journey, as a young man, I am sure I often marveled at what I would become… I am joyfully amazed at what I am seeing.

Just as the persistence of dripping water hollows out stone, creative photography relentlessly knocked at my door. She became my center, my true north, my addiction, and my gravity. Without her presence, at times, I sense a form of spiritual starvation.

To my delight and amazement, I get to ask... “Did I created that???” My answer is and always will be..."Not all by myself!!!" I have been blessed with a bountiful collection of tools and powers, each one higher than myself. They bring me water when I thirst. They pick me up when I fall. They share their ideas unconditionally and allow me to transcend my earthly bounds. I eternally honor their presence. When I create, I find the simplest form of gratitude.

I often sense that I have a generous staff that does all this work for me. They cannot be seen, but they can be felt. They make no sounds, but I hear them loud and clear. Whether creative photography has chosen you, or you have chosen it, create with an attitude that is spoken immediately...In other words “Just Do It” as if you mean it. You will be amazed by the difference.

The allure of creative photography still captivates me… Even after 35 years of commitment, I still see a new awakening happening. She's like a garden, bursting to life. Continuously, I create for my joy and amazement first. Your joy and amazement are the results. I love that feeling.

Constant revisions, new gallery images, content additions, edits, and design changes may occur during different phases of development. Changes will be made often, so I would encourage you to revisit regularly to review my latest and the most up to date creative work and offerings.

Thank you for your continued interest. Enjoy!!!
