"I think of light as a luminous ballet of time and circumstance with each new moment portraying a truly unique performance unlikely repeated. It is those divine and fleeting moments of rare and honest beauty revealed to me that become the sweet fruits born of this magnificent voyage of discovery I have thrown myself into. Capture them. Love them and share them, so that others may enjoy them."
Photographing the Pacific Northwest offers so much grandeur. The area is expansive in its geography and scale, color, variety, atmosphere, and perspective. Some locations of these photographs are in Mark Bergsma's "backyard", and others are more remote, but wherever he aims his lens, he captures a certain story, a kind of inspiring conversation with the land, sea, mountains, or islands. You can be assured he speaks the language of photography.
Since 1979 Mark Bergsma has been building upon a wonderful palate of imagery the Northwest has to offer. His classic landscape photography of the San Juan Island, the North Cascades, the Pacific Northwest Coastal images etc. became the roots of his photographic journey. Mark Bergsma has been a photographer from the moment he stood at his Grandfather's side, absorbing through six-year-old senses the fascinating and addictive process of producing a print in the darkroom. Mark has continued to devote his boundless creativity to photography, and today is making stunningly beautiful and lyrical landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. His on-going pursuit of excellence is reflected in his Bellingham Gallery. His work shows his knowledge of his subject matter, skills as a technician, and his "eye" as an artist. We hope you will enjoy seeing them through your own eyes, and return again and again. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
